In line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s genuine efforts towards community development the Umunze Community in Orumba South Local Government Area has in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, held a peaceful town union election at the Eke-Izo Square, Umunze where Engineer Ezekiel Iheazor was elected the President-General of the Umunze Progressive Union with Messrs Nnaemeka Cheta and Chukwujekwu Aniebo emerging as first and second Vice President-General respectively.
Other elected officials are Messrs Tochukwu Maduagwu, Secretary-General, Nnaemeka Arinze, first Assistant Secretary, Obinna Ukaeze, second Assistant Secretary, Patrick Nnaekunie, Financial Secretary, Obiora Ibeneme, Treasurer, Oluebube Anya, Publicity Secretary, Odili Ifezuo, first Provost, Ignatius Ukaobasi, second Provost, as well as Lazarus Obika who was elected as Welfare and Social Secretary.
Speaking during the election, the Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area, Prince Neville Uchendu commended members of the election committee for organizing a peaceful election into the Umunze Progressive Union.
Prince Uchendu enjoined the elected officials to see their victory as a call to duty and work towards the overall development of Umunze, Orumba South and Anambra State, stressing the need for the people of Umunze to continue to give maximum support to Governor Soludo’s administration.
In his acceptance speech after the election which was monitored by the officials of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, the newly elected President-General of Umunze Progressive Union, Engineer Iheazor, described his victory as an act of God, while thanking the people of Umunze for the confidence reposed in him.
He promised that the newly elected executive will carry everybody along and ensure meaningful development in Umunze, expressing satisfaction with the developmental strides of Governor Soludo in the state as well as the outstanding leadership which Prince Uchendu has continued to exhibit in Orumba South.
One of the Stakeholders in Umunze and Secretary of the election committee, Chief Hyginus Umeaka, described the Umunze Progressive Union election as a huge success, assuring that the community will continue to give maximum support to Governor Soludo’s administration.
Highlight of the event was a courtesy call on the traditional ruler of Umunze, Igwe Promise Eze by the newly elected officials of the Umunze Progressive Union during which Igwe Eze charged them to work hard to ensure peace, unity and progress in Umunze.
