The people of Ogbunka in Orumba South Local Government Area recently converged on Umunnebo village to pay their last respects to their late traditional prime minister Chief Mathew Ezeabikwa.

 

The Late Chief Ezeabikwa, an Engineer, retired as a Teacher at the Federal College of Education, Technical, Umunze and contributed to the growth, development and peace of the community.

He died at the age of seventy-two.

 

The traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Johnmark Anyaoha in company of some traditional rulers in Anambra South Senatorial District led by their Chairman, Igwe Clifford Okeke of Nawfija received the body of the late Chief Ezeabiakwa at Nka Palace, Ogbunka where a brief commendation service took place.

 

Later during a holy mass in honour of the deceased at his residence, an indigenous priest, Reverend Father Professor Ferdinand Nwigbo in a homily, said that death is an inevitable for all mortals.

The traditional ruler of Nawfija, Igwe Okeke described the death of Chief Ezeabiakwa as a great loss to the community.

 

He described the deceased as a man of justice and called on the people of Ogbunka to rally round their traditional ruler, Igwe Anyaoha as he has brought progress to the community since his emergence.

The Chairman, Orumba South traditional rulers’ council, Igwe Bernard Emejuo of Eziagu also commiserated with the people of Ogbunka on the demise of their traditional prime minister.

 

In a condolence message to the Ezeabikwa family, the traditional ruler of Ogbunka, Igwe Anyaoha described the deceased as an honest man whose good work speaks volume as he fought diligently to ensure that peace prevailed in Ogbunka Progressive Union.

In their separate speeches, a brother to the deceased, Sir Emmanuel Ezeabikwa and his son, Onyinyechukwu said they have taken solace in God.

 

Interment, condolences and other side attractions were some of the events that brought the funeral ceremony to its climax.
