The British Council in Collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission and Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, have commenced a four-day training of teachers on Strengthening their English Proficiency.

 

The training holding at Udeozor Memorial Primary School, Awka has participants drawn from the six educational zones of Anambra State in attendance.

 

Declaring the workshop open, the Executive Chairman, Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board Associate Professor Vera Nwadinobi said the training will avail teachers in primary and junior secondary schools in Anambra State the opportunity to improve on their knowledge and teaching of the English language.

 

She reiterated that the training is part of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision to give school children in the State qualitative education.

 

Associate ProfessorNwadinobi advised the teachers to be attentive to all they will be taught and ensure that they step down the knowledge garnered to their pupils and students.

 

For the representative of the British Council, Mr Edward Danjuma from the Kaduna State College of Education, the British Council is a United Kingdom based foundation charged with the responsibility of training teachers to improve in English language among others.

 

The Director Department of Teacher Professional Development, Mrs Bridget Offiah said that the workshop is for teachers to get the necessary skills to advance to the new trends in teaching English Language to the pupils and asked the teachers to make judicious use of the opportunity.

 

The team Leader of Facilitators of the training, Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu, who is the Dean School of Languages, Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe, other resource persons, were present during the opening ceremony of the training workshop.
