Eight roads in Agulu Awka community comprising seven out of the thirty three villages in Awka are now under construction by Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration.
Two out of the eighth roads had been asphalted while asphalt is being laid on the third road which is Ulunese street.
Also, stone base has been laid on some of the roads while some others have been primed.
Speaking on the development, the chairman Ulunese Agulu community, Chief Ken Ekwenugo said that apart from creating access road for vehicles to come and leave the area done by Ndi Agulu Awka in 1962, this is the first time they are witnessing government presence in terms of road infrastructure.
Chief Ekwenugo explained that they have visited and appealed to various previous administration to come to their aid to no avail, but Governor Soludo came on his own to give the area a sense of belonging and has almost completed the work.
While commending the contractor, Mr Clem Nwogbo for doing a quality work on the roads, Chief Ekwenugo thanked the Governor for what he did for Awka community, which he said will be indelible in the mind of the people , assuring him of their support.
On his part, an APGA chieftain, Chief Obi Ochije-Modilim who is the chairman All Soludo Support Group, Anambra Central said that Governor Soludo has done for Awka community what has never been done in history of the area, especially with the quality of work being done on the roads which he said is the first phase of the roads.
Adding that the second and third phases of the construction work will follow in due course, Chief Ochije-Modilim regretted that the Otochalu Awka who received and prayed for the Governor when he visited and flagged off the road is no longer alive to see that construction work on the roads are almost completed, recalling how the Otochalu Awka was nearly drowned in the last year’s rainy season when hia house and many others were flooded.
Another stakeholder in Awka whose house was along the Ulunese street, Doctor Samuel noted that this is the first time they are witnessing this kind of development and observed that the Governor is focusing on people oriented projects, urging him not to relent.
The Project Manager Engineer Felix Afie said that they will complete the work in February this year, and assured that the thickness of the asphalt is seven centimeters to compact to five centimeters even as he appreciated Governor Soludo for giving them the opportunity to serve especially as they worked on a life changing project for Ndi Agulu Awka.
