To improve healthcare service delivery at the grassroot, Aguata-Orumba Women Organization of Southern California, United States of America, has provided Comprehensive Primary Health Center, Logbu, Umunze ward two with assorted drugs, two solar light panels with stands, a generator, a stabilizer, a plasma TV and an antenna.

 

Other items include thirty pieces of plastic chairs, a table, a sumo water pump, a role of sumo rope, a role of electric wire, fifteen length pipe and two storage tanks.

Speaking at the event, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike represented by the Executive Secretary of Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Pharmacist Chisom Uchem thanked the group on behalf of the state government for their gesture, saying it is in line with the “Aku luo uno” call for the speedy development of the state.

On his part, the Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area, Prince Neville Uchendu, who noted that the women group were kind enough to think home for the people, regretted efforts of certain persons to deprive people of the area of benefits of the center through court cases, and assured that stakeholders meeting will be convened to find solutions, even as he promised to give more attention to the center.

On behalf of the group, Mrs. Ogechukwu Ojinnaka, a Psychotherapist, said the aim was to give back to the society where they come from or are married to by equipping health centers for the benefit of the people, adding that the gesture will be extended to other communities in Aguata, Orumba North and South Council Areas.

 

The traditional ruler of Umunze, Igwe Promise Eze, represented by Chief Obinna Ukaejiofor, said the gesture by the organization is exemplary, and urged government to intervene in the ongoing court case over ownership of the land on which the health facility is situated, a call re-echoed by the State Organizing Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Mr. Ikechukwu Okoli in his remarks.

Others, including the Chairman of Ward Development Committee, Umunze Two, Mr. Christian Umeh, Supervisory Councilor, Health, Orumba South Local Government Area, Mr. Chinedu Onyeachor, while thanking the group for the kind gesture, appealed to the government to provide other needs of the center, including staff and security.
