Governor Chukwuma Soludo has ordered the immediate suspension of the payment of subvention to the Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, till the arrears of salary owed the staff of the college are paid.
It was gathered that the staff of the college went home for Christmas holidays with unpaid salary for three months, a situation which government said was unacceptable.
In view of this, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, has directed the Bursar of the College to proceed to office of the Accountant General of the State with the payroll of the College, as arrangements have been made for their payment from source.
In another development, the Headteacher of United Primary School Nkpor One, Mrs Ngozi Okeke has been asked to step down as the Headteacher of the school for collecting the sum of six thousand naira instead of one thousand nine hundred naira for registration of Common Entrance Examination.
The Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh who made the announcement said that the decision was taken because her action was against the mandate of Governor Chukwuma Soludo that no extra fees should be paid in primary schools.
She has been asked to hand over to the highest-ranking teacher in the school.
