Anambra State governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has spoken with Mrs Tonia Okpala, a former tennis champion who was found wandering the streets of the state capital.
In the phone call, Mrs Soludo, while sharing lively conversations with Mrs Okpala, promised to immediately take her into rehabilitation and help to reunite her with her daughter and family.
Mrs Okpala was recently caught in now viral amateur video wandering the popular Club Road in Awka, formerly known as Abakiliki Street.
On seeing the video, Mrs Soludo reached out to the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare to immediately take custody of the ex-tennis champion.
Speaking with Tonia on the phone after she was found by the ministry, Mrs Soludo assured her that the state government would ensure her full recovery and re-integration into society.
She explained that the difficulty faced by Tonia was only temporary.and promised to use her non-governmental organization, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, to assist her in certain areas of needs, including nutrition and mental health counselling.
Tonia is already taking treatments at an undisclosed hospital.
