Having successfully supervised and certified most of the communities’ elections held in some communities in the state between twenty six December 2023 and seventh January 2024, the Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs has issued letters of recognitions to thirty-four recently elected Presidents General of communities in the state.
Addressing the new community leaders during the event which took place at the Secretary to the State Governments conference Hall, Government House Awka, the state Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Hon. Tonycollins Nwabunwanne who congratulated them for their victories, reminded them of the need to use the opportunities given to them by members of their various communities to bring lasting peace and development to their areas.
Hon. Nwabunwanne further highlighted some of the achievements and plans of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s led administration and called on them to key into the agenda of the current government in the state to ensure its realization and onward development of their communities and Anambra state in general.
Recall that the administration of Governor Soludo, through the office of the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, has successfully conducted one hundred and thirty-eight Town Union Elections in less than two years in office, hence bringing to an end the era of caretaker community leadership in most of the communities across the state.
Highlight of the event was the presentations of the Certificates of Recognition to the newly elected Presidents General by Commissioner Nwabunwanne, assisted by the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Izuchukwu Okafor and the Special Adviser to Governor Soludo on Political Matters, Dr Alex Obiogbolu, among others.
