The Principal of Community Secondary School, Ichida, Mrs. Geraldine Ijemba, has been asked to step down for collecting unapproved fees from students against the free education policy of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration.

The Chairman, Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, Awka, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, asked the affected Principal to hand over all the school’s property to Vice-Principal, Administration, and proceed to PPSSC headquarters in Awka for further interrogation.

Professor Ikediugwu, who disclosed this while addressing Principals of Onitsha Education zone at the second term zonal meeting of 2023/2024 academic session, warned other Principals to shun illegal collection of levies; as this will attract dismissal.

She enjoined the Principals to always be at alert to meet with the demands of Governor Soludo by ensuring that they have vibrant ICT Coordinators in their schools.

Professor Ikediugwu advised the principals to always power their phones and empower their ICT Coordinators to give prompt monthly data on issues that concern the education sector.

The PPSSC Chairman also advised the principals to always take permission from the zonal office before leaving their schools because they should expect staff from either the zone or headquarters to monitor their schools any time, and it is a serious misconduct to leave their schools without permission.

Professor Ikediugwu equally urged other Principals to monitor the behavior and activities of teachers in their schools by looking into the time books, duty rosters, and class attendances.

In attendance were Member in-charge of Onitsha Education zone, the Zonal Director, PPSSC, Onitsha zone, and the Principals of Onitsha Education zone.

Meanwhile, the PPSSC Chairman, has visited Comprehensive Science and Technical College, Nawfia to ascertain the extent of the damage caused by the fire that engulfed the school, and expressed happiness that the wild fire did not affect the school buildings.
