Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Transportation has called on Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency, ATMA, to intensify efforts in sensitizing motorists to always observe traffic signs to keep the state free from obstructions, in addition to reducing road crashes.

 

The chairman of the committee, Mr Kingsley Udemezue made the call when the committee paid a familiarization visit to the Managing Director of the Agency, Mr. Emeka Okonkwo in his office in Awka.

 

While commending the Agency for restoring sanity to Anambra roads, Mr Udemezue stressed the need for ATMA traffic officers to always respect rights and dignity of motorists while carrying out their duties.

 

The legislator assured them that the committee will work in synergy with them to achieve the purpose for which the agency was established.

 

Receiving the committee, the Managing Director of Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency, Mr. Okonkwo disclosed that the mandate of the agency is to ensure that Anambra roads are always free for users saying that they have been trying to do so on the balance of implementing Anambra State Government policy and protection of citizens.

 

He further told the committee that the Agency has always trained its staff to be civil in communicating with people, even as he urged motorists to avoid behaviour that would bring them to confrontation with the law.
