The Southeast representative of the Council of Energy Commission in Nigeria and Anambra State Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Mr. Julius Chukwuemeka, says Governor Chukwuma Soludo is passionately investing in power sector to accelerate economic development of the state.
Mr. Chukwuemeka made this known during a tripartite meeting of Power Commissioners Forum, Nigerian Governors’ Forum and the Federal Ministry of Power, with the Minister of Power, Engineer Adebayo Adelabu, held at Power House, Abuja.
The meeting was aimed at the development of sub national electricity markets, national electricity policy and strategic implementation plan.
Mr. Chukwuemeka noted that Governor Soludo remains passionate to continuously invest in power sector, and x-rayed the achievements of the Governor, especially as it regards the alternative power supply in line with his clean and green environment agenda.
Other achievement of the Governor, according to the Commissioner include facilitating timely execution of Federal Government Projects in the state, as Governor Soludo has resolved the issues of Right of Way, RoW, which has been a major challenge to executing Power Projects in most states.
Commissioner Chukwuemeka revealed that power supply has tremendously improved in the state since the inception of the Soludo led administration, noting that the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, the state government had with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, has began to yield the needed result, including the siting of Prepaid Meter Manufacturing factory in the state, which would bridge the metering gap in the state.
He further noted that the draft for Anambra State Power Policy and Electricity Bill, which will pave way for the creation of Anambra State Electricity Market, are ready and will soon be sent to the state House of Assembly for consideration, as Anambra is ready to harness every opportunity provided by the Electricity Amendment Act, 2023.
Recall that Governor Soludo had resolved the “Right of Way” for Umuchu and Aguleri substations, and the construction of Umuchu substation which will boost Power Supply in Anambra State.
