Members of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, have been challenged to work in line with state government agenda for development, and support the present administration in its drive to take a place for the state on the world map.

 

This was the crux of messages delivered by speakers during the first meeting of the association for the year 2024.

The meeting held at ASATU office, Government House, Awka started with an interdenominational prayer session, after which new members were administered with oath of obedience to serve their communities with diligence, truth and sincerity; while carrying out government directives to entrench peace and development in the state.

 

Addressing the leaders of the various communities in the state, the State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, said the Soludo administration is working to change the way of doing things in the state, and charged them to key into government policies to bring unrivaled development to the communities.

He urged the community leaders to ensure that youths in their communities benefit from the empowerment programmes of the state government by collecting their data to enable them be part of second phase of the “One Youth, Two Skills” initiative of the Soludo administration.

 

Commissioner Agha Mba asked the Presidents General to submit names of three persons from their various communities to participate in the mentorship plan of the programme, stating that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is committed to empowering youths to become useful members of the society and help reduce crime and criminality in the state.

During the meeting, the National President of ASATU, Barrister Titus Akpudo, reminded members of the need to maintain law and order in their communities, and sensitize members of their communities on the importance of the Anambra State Burial Law; aimed at ensuring that no one is exploited in the course of burying loved one.

 

He appreciated Governor Soludo for his developmental projects in the state; such as the ongoing construction of roads, renovation and construction of health centers in the three hundred and sixty-two wards in the state, and empowerment programmes for the unemployed.

 

 

In their separate speeches, the President General of Oko community, Barrister Casmir Nwafor, Engineer Chinedu Nwafor of Onne community, and his Ukpo counterpart, Sir Uchenna Ezewulu, said they are in office to render quality services to their various communities by protecting lives and property, and ensuring that they do other things that are in accordance with government policies and agenda.

 

ASATU later presented palliatives to families of their members who died in active service of their communities.
