Governor Chukwuma Soludo has continued to fulfill his campaign promises as his administration focuses on providing basic healthcare needs of Ndi Anambra, especially those in the hinterlands and hard-to-reach areas.
ABS reports that this was evident in Aguleri-Otu as members of the community heaved sigh of relief after the Soludo administration began the construction of a world class general hospital that will serve the three communities of Aguleri-Otu: Eziagulu-Otu, Enugwu-Otu and Mkpunando-Otu .
When completed, the hospital will be the first secondary healthcare facility to be located in Aguleri Otu, across the Omambala river.
Annually, members of the communities are faced with flood and outbreak of cholera, measles and many other diseases which lead to the death of many people due to their lack of access to quality healthcare services, reason the new hospital will be a game changer for the rural dwellers when completed.
Speaking to the ABS when he inspected the site of the hospital project, the Traditional ruler of Mkpunando-Otu Aguleri, Igwe Johnson Mbanefo, expressed joy over the construction which he said has reached forty percent completion, saying that the hospital is the best thing to ever happen to the communities.
Igwe Mbanefo said their people will no longer die of treatable illnesses, recalling many deaths that were recorded in the three Aguleri Otu communities because there were no hospitals.
The monarch praised Governor Soludo and the Commissioner for health, Dr Afam Obidike, for their intervention in the communities and called the Governor’s attention to the dilapidated Odene Aguleri-Otu Road.
The President General of Mkpunando-Otu Aguleri, Chief Ifeanyi Mokwe, said they embraced the massive hospital project with large heart, as it is only the Soludo administration that has remembered their plight.
Lending her voice as it concerns the women and children, the wife of the Traditional ruler of Mkpunando-Otu Aguleri, Mrs. Ebele Mbanefo, lamented mortality rate of women and children in the communities saying that the nearest hospital to the three communities is about forty-five kilometers away.
She commended Governor Soludo and his wife, Nonye, for the project which she said has brought quality healthcare to their door steps.
In their separate speeches, the Councilor representing Enugwu-Otu Ward in Anambra East Local Government Council Transition Committee, Mr. Uyammadu Amechi, and the Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Enugwu-Otu Ward, Chief Hillary Mmuokwugor, also commended Governor Soludo for remembering the people of the area.
