Anambra State House of Assembly has invited to a meeting the Commissioner for Homeland Affairs, the leadership of the Anti-touting Squad Onitsha Zone, Special Advisers to the Governor on Market and Security, and the Chairman of Bridge Head Market, Onitsha.

 

The meeting aims to address speculations surrounding the alleged killing of one Mr. Arinze Obunadike by members of the Anti-touting outfit and Market Security at Bridge Head Market, Onitsha.

This development followed a presentation by the Member representing Ihiala Two Constituency, Honourable Golden Iloh who raised the issue as a matter of urgent public importance.

 

He noted that Mr. Obunadike, a resident of Iyiowa in Ogbaru Council Area and a graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, who was an apprentice at Bridge Head Market Onitsha, was reportedly killed on February sixteenth, 2024.

Honourable Iloh emphasized the need for an investigation to dispel tension and ensure accountability.

 

Supporting the move, the member representing Ogbaru One constituency Honourable Noble Igwe, expressed sorrow over the incident and stressed the urgency of addressing issues within the Anti-touting operations.

Similarly, the member representing Nnewi North Constituency, Honourable Augustine Ike and his Onitsha South One counterpart, Honourable Fred Ezenwa condemned the incident.

 

The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze called for the summoned officials to appear before the House Committee on Homeland and Boundary Matters on Thursday, February 22, 2024, to provide clarity on the matter.

In another development, a bill for a law to establish the health facility monitoring and accreditation agency 2024 and a bill for a law to provide for the prohibition of touting and related activities in all sectors in Anambra State have passed second reading.

 

The bills were sponsored by the Majority Leader of the House, Honourable Ikenna Ofodeme.
