The Anambra state Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engineer Julius Chukwuemeka, recently joined other Commissioners and stakeholders in the nation’s water sector at the thirtieth regular meeting of the National Council on Water Resources and Sanitation held in Abuja.

 

The event has its theme as, ‘People, planet and prosperity: Promoting Water Governance for National food security.

In his speech during the meeting, Engineer Chukwuemeka, thanked the council for their collaborative efforts in making sure that the country takes advantage of the enormous water sources to fight food insecurity.

 

The Commissioner further informed the council members of the numerous successes being recorded by Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s government in making clean and potable water available for the people of the state especially with the introduction of renewable energy sources in providing twenty-four hours water supply to the people of the state.

Earlier, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engineer Joseph Utsev in his speech, noted that the vital role of water resources in attaining food security which grows the economy and reduces poverty in the country can never be over emphasized.

 

Also, during the meeting, Engineer Chukwuemeka was notified through a letter signed by the Director, Water supply and Support Services, Federal Ministry of Water & Sanitation, that the federal government has commenced the construction of motorized boreholes at Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe and Anambra State College of Health Technology, Obosi.

 

Recall that Commissioner Chukwuemeka had earlier on first September, 2023, nominated the two tertiary institutions in the state for the provisions of motorized water boreholes in order to solve the water supply needs of the students of the Institutions.
