The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo says his administration commenced work in Okpoko to demonstrate commitment to the well-being of the poor, the downtrodden and the forgotten in the state.

 

Governor Soludo stated this during an unscheduled inspection visit to Okpoko in Ogbaru Local Government Area.

 

The Governor assured that by the time his government completes on going projects in the area, street lights, pipe-borne water, general hospital, among other amenities will be enjoyed by the people.

 

He recalled that his administration’s free education in government schools, free antenatal care and delivery services in all government hospitals, among others, testify to his commitment to the wellbeing of the poor.

 

Governor Soludo who was received amidst chants, explained that Coca-Cola market was shut because there is no developed State where trading goes on the streets, stressing that there must be designated decent and healthy places for such purposes.

 

He frowned at people who use their wares to block the road and emphasized that a new place has been mapped out to accommodate the fruits and vegetable market, and that work will soon commence at the site which has security, street lights, water and others.

 

Governor Soludo said that until the new market is completed, leaders of the coca cola market will meet with the state government to find a common ground to temporarily re-open the Market.

 

The Governor stressed that in the interim, the private owners of the properties in the market will make commitment to making the place befitting, by showing a plan on daily cleanup of the place, guarantee that nobody will trade their wares on the road, as well as form their own task force to enforce the conditions given to them.
