Governor Chukwuma Soludo has tasked Traditional Rulers and Presidents-General in the State on playing more active roles in the development of their various communities.
Governor Soludo made this known at the International Convention Centre in Awkas during a meeting with the two grassroot-oriented bodies, stressing that grassroot is critical in projecting and promoting his administration’s Public-Private-Community-Partnership model .
At the community level, Governor Soludo reiterated the imperativeness of more collaboration with communities in the area of security, environment and others, warning that indiscriminate sand mining which has been discovered to be a major cause of erosion in the state has been banned in most communities, as a way to salvage the environment which is Anambra’s number one existential threat.
The Governor who raised the issue of touting and illegal collection of revenues especially in urban and semi-urban areas, stated that Anambra’s revenue is not enough to fully develop the state, adding that if everybody contributes five percent of their resources, more grounds will be covered.
Governor Soludo added that a building code for erecting houses in the state is being implemented to accommodate greenery and appropriate water channeling to inhibit erosion and promised to continue to work round the clock to address the issues confronting various communities across the state, especially fixing the insecurity situation in Ihiala, with the full involvement of the community and putting an end to the Monday sit at home, among other things.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe noted that the sit-at-home in the state has become illogical at this point because Ndigbo are now shooting themselves in the leg, unknowingly.
The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, Anambra State Head of Service, Barrister Theodora Igwegbe, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Honourable Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, the State Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA Chief Ifeatu Obiokoye, National President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, Barrister Titus Akpudo, among others attended the meeting.
The meeting featured questions and answer session by some Presidents-General and observation of one-minute silence for the deceased President-General of Umuoji as well as the victims of the Odu-Igbo Market tragedy in Ochanja.
