The Transition Committee Chairman of Awka North Local Government Area, Comrade ThankGod Anago, has inaugurated the local government rapid response team against gastroenteritis, otherwise known as stomach flu.
Gastroenteritis, which is an intestinal infection marked by diarrhea, cramps, nausea, vomiting, as well as fever, is typically spread by contact with an infected person or through contaminated food or water, and poses a great challenge to the rural people in Awka North.
Inaugurating the team, Comrade Anago said that in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision for a healthy Anambra, that the local government under his leadership would continue to offer timely and necessary support to the activities of the rapid response team for the purpose of containing the health risks associated with stomach flu in the area.
He further disclosed that good healthcare service delivery remains a cardinal need of his administration, and tasked the team on timely and continuous sensitization of Ndi Awka North across the ten communities in the area.
Members of the Rapid Response Team against Gastroenteritis include Dr Chike Ohamobi, who is the Director, Primary Healthcare, Awka North Health Authority, the Disease Surveillance and Notification Officer, Awka North, Mrs. Eunice Obi, Local Government Immunization Officer, Awka North, Mrs. Gloria Okpele, as well as the Social Mobilization Officer of the council area.
