Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s intention to serve Ndi Anambra as a good son of the soil saw him during the 2021 election campaign tour all the one hundred and seventy nine towns in the state for on-the-spot assessment of their challenges and living conditions, so as to understand his job specifications and expectations from the people and draw a road map into turning the state into a prosperous, liveable, secure and smart city.
Thus, upon assumption of office in March 2022, Governor Soludo prioritized his campaign promises in different phases by tackling insecurity, excavation of wastes and unlocking the drainages to reduce incessant flooding in all parts of the state, as well as giving a facelift to the mega cities of the state and tackling the issue of touting and criminalities amongst others.
Since the Governor understood that improving infrastructure, such as building solid roads to connect hard-to-reach communities, it immediately became a primary initiative that can unlock numerous opportunities for isolated communities.
During his visit to Olumbanasa in Anambra West, Awka North, Ogbaru among others, Governor Soludo vowed to provide easier access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and emergency services for residents of the areas through ongoing plan to link them to the rest of the state for opportunities, and quicker emergency response times.
For enhanced economic opportunities; better transportation infrastructure can facilitate the movement of goods and people, opening up new economic opportunities for residents in remote areas. Improved access can also promote trade, tourism, and the development of local businesses which the present administration is on top gear towards actualizing.
Connecting isolated communities to the rest of the region or country through strategic road networks can help to reduce social isolation and improve social cohesion, allowing residents to easily connect with neighboring communities, participate in social activities, and engage with a broader range of people.
Governor Soludo, through his properly planned road construction projects can help to reduce environmental degradation by providing designated routes for transportation and minimizing the impact on natural habitats which preserve the local ecosystem and wildlife.
Resilience and Disaster Response are parts of the effects of improved infrastructure that have helped to enhance the resilience of remote communities in the face of natural disasters by providing better evacuation routes and access to relief efforts.
On Technological Advancements, building roads can pave the way for the introduction of modern technologies and services in hard-to-reach communities, such as access to internet connectivity, mobile communication, and other modern amenities that rely on a reliable transportation network.
While placing priority on hard-to-reach communities in the state, Governor Soludo has done excellently well in paying attention to existing roads and construction of urban roads through Anambra Road Maintenance Agency and Public – Private – Community Partnership as witnessed at Adazi-Ani, Awgbu, Enugwu-Ukwu and Abatete, among others.
His executive order to halt mining activities in the region represents a pivotal step in addressing the long-standing erosion menace and demonstration of his unwavering commitment to safeguarding the environment for generations to come.
Governor Soludo’s visionary leadership extends beyond infrastructure and environmental conservation to transformative policies in education and healthcare. The implementation of free education in public schools and the provision of free antenatal and delivery services in public hospitals have already begun to positively impact the lives of our citizens. The heartwarming story of a woman from Awgbu community who gave birth to quadruplets through a caesarean section, free of cost, stands as a testament to the life-changing nature of these initiatives.
As we bear witness to these remarkable achievements, it is evident that Anambra State is on an upward trajectory, poised to realize its full potential. Together, we are building a future that not only benefits the present generation but also paves the way for generations to come.
In all, investing in road construction to connect hard-to-reach communities can have far-reaching benefits that contribute to the development, well-being, and prosperity of those living in these areas.
