The out-going Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe, Dr Ifeyinwa Osegbo has called on the state government to proclaim the institution a University of Education.
Dr Osegbo stated this while delivering her valedictory speech at the institution’s new auditorium.
The program started with a special mass to thank God for a successful tenure of Dr Osegbo’s administration of six years at Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe, Anambra East Local Government Area.
She said that efforts have been put on ground both academically and infrastructurally as well as a series of upgrades and accreditations that qualified the institution to become a University of Education as her counterparts like Alvan Ikoku and many others that have been upgraded to universities.
Dr Osegbo disclosed that on assumption of office, she set-up a seven-point strategic plan that helped her administration succeed, which includes academic excellence, staff and students’ welfare, discipline, skill acquisition and development, sports development, agricultural expansion development as well as physical and infrastructural development.
The Out-going Provost, commended the Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo for his love for the College by providing them with funds and other amenities which kept the college moving, saying that if the institution is upgraded to a University of Education, it will help it to diversify the number of courses offered and will also free it from the bondage of affiliation.
Earlier in a homily during the thanksgiving mass at Saint Catherine Catholic Chaplaincy, Reverend Father Henry Nnajiofor noted that thanksgiving is an important aspect of the biblical injunction which means that everyone ought to thank God for life, stating that the provost did well in the institution and asked the congregation to live by faith and grace.
Speaking shortly after the valedictory ceremony, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Mr Chimezie Obi expressed delight with the success recorded by Dr Osegbo, describing her as a virtuous woman, who used her wealth of knowledge to transform the college.
The Immediate past Director of General Studies of the school, Dame Chika Osinomumu maintained that Dr Osegbo changed the history of the college, gave the institution a face-lift as she judiciously utilized the Tet fund interventions to improve the institution.
Speaking on behalf of the Osegbo family, the first brother of the Provost, Pharmacist Onuora Osegbo disclosed that listening to the valedictory speeches was a heartwarming moment for them and prayed to God to bless them.
