The Anambra State Physical Planning Board has announced the commencement of “operation show your building approval” across the state.
The Chairman of the Board, Barrister Chike Maduekwe who disclosed this while exchanging views with newsmen in Awka, issued a fresh warning to developers building without proper government approval.
He emphasized the importance of obtaining permits and following regulations to ensure safe and sustainable development, saying that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has directed that henceforth, any building without relevant approvals will be demolished and the developer arrested, even if it is a government building.
The Chairman regretted that usually, when many developers are served with “stop work” notice or other notices, they resort to violence, beating and injuring of staff of the board in most cases.
While stressing that the impunity by developers has gone on for too long in the state where they build without recourse to consequences of their actions, the Chairman noted that the state resources will no longer be wasted in pursuing recalcitrant developers and announced an end to such an era.
Barrister Maduekwe urged developers to work with the government to ensure that their projects meet all the requirements and do not violate the land-use regulations, adding that the collapsed buildings at Ochanja market were built without first securing government approval.
