Ndi Anambra have been urged to collaborate with the state government in desilting of drainages across the state to prevent flooding.

The Managing Director, Operation Clean And Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, Mr. Celestine Anere made the call during a collaborative inspection of Awka Metropolis with the Managing Director, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, Mr. Ossy Onuko, and the Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Mr. ThankGod Anagor on the impact of flooding after the first major rain of the year.

Mr. Anere explained that the joint inspection is to enable the government implement a comprehensive plan of action to prevent flooding in the state.

 

According to him, time has come for Ndi Anambra to ensure the desilting of all drainages in their environs and for more collaboration between the state, agencies and individuals towards ensuring that flood incidents are reduced to the barest minimum.

Contributing, Mr Onuko explained that the joint task force has taken into consideration the issue of flooding and are working to ensure that causes of flooding are mitigated and as well come up with solutions and strategies to minimise its impact on the citizenry.

On his part, the Commandant of Dobe Awka Ocha, Prince Ikechukwu Ndigwe appreciated the citizens for improved waste disposal practices especially in Awka and its environs and assured of regular evacuation of wastes especially during the rainy season.
