Following the smashing of a notorious kidnap gang on the night of Friday, eighth March 2024 at Awgbu in Orumba North Local Government Area, Police operatives have intensified manhunt for the kidnappers who escaped from the scene of the shootout.
According to the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, while combing the surrounding bushes on Saturday morning, Police and local vigilante operatives recovered a loaded AK-47 Rifle with double magazines containing fifty rounds of seven point six-two ammunition, which was promptly rendered safe and taken into custody for further investigation.
Commending the diligence of the joint security team, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr Aderemi Adeoye, promised to reward it for its commitment to public safety.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit at Awkuzu has taken over the case for proper investigation as directed by the Commissioner of Police, and the Commander of the Unit has assured that it will leave no stone unturned until the kidnap suspects are brought to justice.
Four male victims rescued from the kidnappers last Friday have all been re-united with their families, according to the police source.
