It is now days since the International Women’s Day was commemorated by countries around the world but the ripples of the event has continued as different groups and organizations have continued to hold discussions on how to see to the practical implementation of its theme “Invest In Women: Accelerate progress” in all the fabrics of society.
One of such programmes is the campaign for the “inclusion of women to end all challenges facing women especially Gender Based violence” championed by the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme RoLAC II in collaboration with Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare with other co-ordinating bodies.
Speakers at the flag-off of the campaign in Anambra North Senatorial District held at Anambra East Council Area Headquarters, Otuocha called on the womenfolk to become the vanguard of change and work towards ending Gender Based Violence.
The flag-off attracted heads of women groups, women leaders, wives of traditional rulers, and many others who were charged to go back to their various locals to disseminate information on all they garnered from the programme and ensure that women rights are no longer violated in their localities.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo said that women in the state have never had it so good in the state as the present administration is keen to protect women and children from abuse.
Mrs Obinabo who spoke through her aide, Mrs Blessing Nweke asked the women to be agents of change by reporting any ills meted on them, even as she told them that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has set up a court saddled with the responsibility of addressing assault on women.
The State Coordinator, Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Corruption, RoLAC II, Mrs Josephine Onah clamoured for different ways of inspiring women to become self-reliant and contribute to the growth and development of the state, and called for deliberate gender budget inclusion, empowerment as well taking ownership of government projects in their locals.
Mrs Onah advocated the establishment of Local Government Child Rights Law Committee as the court established by the governor cannot be enough to deal with all the issues and challenged women to show interest in cases of molestation and violation of rights which is the sole aim of inaugurating them.
On her part, the State Director Of NAPTIP, Mrs Judith Chukwu-Ibadin asked women to stop exposing other women to obnoxious cultural practices in the name of mourning their husbands and sexual exploitations of the girl child.
