Anambra State Education sector has been in the limelight in Nigeria for several years now because of the massive investment of the governments of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the sector over the years.
On assumption of office last two years on APGA platform, Governor Chukwuma Soludo increased the tempo of investment in the education sector to the extent that Anambra school children’s academic performances have now gone beyond national level bringing international trophies home.
Education Correspondent, Queen Anigbogu in this special report brings to the fore, the reactions of Ndi Anambra on the Governor’s interventions in the state education sector.
The Chairman, Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu in her reaction described Governor Soludo as Godsent to Ndi Anambra at a critical period in the history of Nigeria, reducing unemployment through recruitment of teachers, reducing financial burden on Anambra parents through the introduction of free education and approved the release of science equipment for equipping school’s laboratories.
She recalled how Governor Soludo sponsored some students to Malaysia last year for a debate competition and came back with trophy, adding that at internal and external examinations, Anambra school children have continued to excel because of the enabling teaching and learning environment provided by the Soludo administration.
Professor Ikediugwu revealed that more interventions are underway including the smart schools which she said mechanism is in motion to make that a reality even as she pledged for more support to the Governor as he clocks two years in office.
For the Principal, Government Technical College, Osommala in Ogbaru Local Government Area, Mrs. Joyce Uchendu, the Governor is dedicated to transforming the education sector by the recent distribution of laptop computers to headteachers and Principals, employing five thousand teachers at the beginning of his tenure to fill in the gaps in the schools which other politicians would have done when they are leaving office and the ongoing recruitment of additional three thousand teachers.
In their various remarks, the Principal of Community Secondary School, Oko, Mrs. Ifeoma Enekwechi, her Community Secondary School, Ukwulu counterpart, Mrs. Amaka Eze, the Headteacher of Migrant Farmers School, Neni, Mrs. Ngozi Okeke and one of the new teachers at Udoka Primary School, Awka, Mrs. Angel Obidike, said his work speak for him and his free education policy gives indigent parents in Anambra State a chance to breathe.
