Wife of the Governor of Anambra State Mrs. Nonye Soludo has asked mothers to understand that their first and primary responsibility is to their homes, including paying special attention to the children and making their homes peaceful.

 

Mrs. Soludo who was speaking in Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area, during an event to mark the 2024 International Women’s Day, stated that the time has come for women to take full responsibility of their roles in rebuilding the homes and the greater society.

Addressing the over four thousand women who attended the event, Mrs. Soludo explained that mothers have enormous power to determine how the society operates, and charged them to use their powers positively, especially now that the society is going through lots of challenges.

 

The governor’s wife also asked the women to always support one another to succeed and work together for the best organizational purpose.

She noted that the current administration in the state is conscious of what women can contribute to good governance, a reason the government has allowed women to steer the affairs of major public offices where they have shown excellence.

 

In their various remarks, the member representing Idemili South Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Ebuka Igwe and the Commissioner for Entertainment, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji, asked the women to take a cue from what the governor’s wife is using her healthy living crusade to achieve, including their choice of diets and how they care for their body.

On her part, the member representing Anaocha Constituency One in the State House of Assemble, Honourable Nkechi Ogbuefi, said that the present administration has shown sincere commitment to service as exemplified in the many development policies undertaken in less than two years, and explained that it is time to drop political differences and work together for a greater and better Anambra State.

 

The Commissioner for Special Duties Mrs. Beverly Nkemdiche-Ikpeazu, urged the women to understand that the era of women playing the second fiddle has gone, and urged them to stand up for themselves.

Earlier in her speech, the Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South Local Government Area, Mrs. Amaka Obi, spoke about the impact Mrs. Soludo has made on good governance and how she has used a model of humility to set example for womanhood.

 

She highlighted how the local government area has benefitted immensely from Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration and asked the women to continue with their support to the government as it is committed to results.

 

The governor’s wife also unveiled the plaque of the renovated traditional rulers’ complex in the council headquarters.

The Special Adviser to Governor Soludo on Youth Empowerment Programmes, Dr Neslon Omenugha, the Anambra State APGA Woman Leader, Mrs. Esther Onyekesi, women groups and associations from all the towns in the local government area, were at the event.
