As a way of promoting Igbo language and culture among the younger generation, Blessing Brilliant International Academy Abagana, has marked her maiden cultural day for school children.
The event held at the school premises provided opportunity to educate the pupils on the significance of preserving Igbo language and culture to prevent it from fading away.
Throughout the show, the pupils entertained parents and guests with a variety of cultural activities, including wrestling, debate, dance, tongue twisting, drama and quiz, all conducted in Igbo language.
Addressing the gathering, the Anambra State Commissioner for Culture Tourism and Entertainment, Comrade Don Onyenji, commended the academy for promoting and nurturing culture within the school, emphasizing that through continued celebration of Igbo culture, it will remain vibrant as the pupils grow.
Commissioner Onyenji, represented by a Director in the Ministry, Mrs Chioma Ifedioha, hailed the school as a bastion of leadership and values, urging them to sustain instilling values in their pupils, assuring them of government support.
The Chairman of the occasion, Sir Chuka Nnabuife, who praised the remarkable performance displayed by the school children, which he noted highlighted their mental alertness and skills, called on other schools to emulate such cultural events in promoting Igbo language and culture.
Speaking during the event, a renowned writer, Mr. Chika-Jerry Okeke, and a civil servant from Anambra State, Dr. Uchenna Ezeani, expressed their support and encouragement to the school’s efforts in grooming the children properly, commending the standard of their performances.
In her remark, the Proprietor of the school, Mrs. Blessing David, and the Director, Dr. David Emmanuel, expressed commitment to sustaining the cultural event to ensure that the school children remain well-versed in Igbo culture.
They thanked parents for entrusting their children to them, and guests for their support.
The event climaxed with award presentation and cutting of cake.
