The International Forestry Students Association, Faculty of Agriculture, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has honoured the Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Sir Chido Obidiegwu, with an award as an Ambassador of Environmental Forestry.
The award was in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the field of forestry and environmental conservation, as well as unwavering commitment to advancing sustainable forestry practices worldwide.
Addressing the gathering, the Head of Department of Forestry and Wildlife, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Dr. Jacinta Ezenwenyi, commended the awardee for his outstanding leadership and applauded his initiatives in promoting collaboration among industry stakeholders and environmental advocates, emphasizing that the award underscores Sir Chido’s visionary approach and unwavering commitment to catalyzing constructive transformation within the forestry sector
Appreciating the association for the recognition, Sir Chido, represented by a staff of the ABS, Comrade Blessing Dennis, underscored the imperativeness of collaborative efforts in safeguarding and conserving the world’s forests, and reiterated ABS dedication to environmental responsibility and advancing sustainable development practices.
Earlier at orientation ceremony for new students of the department, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Professor Cordelia Ebenebe, emphasized that forestry transcends mere academic study; as it embodies a profound commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible natural resource management.
She encouraged the students to approach their studies with dedication and deep sense of responsibility.
The Chairman on the occasion, Professor Anthony Ben, a guest speaker from Germany, Mr. Toochukwu ThankGod, and the Academic Adviser of the association, Dr. Onyekachukwu Chukwu, stressed the importance of environmental stewardship among students, urging them to apply their skills to address pressing environmental challenges.
