More stakeholders are commending Governor Chukwuma Soludo for embarking on restoration of pipe borne water supply across the state.
Speaking in Awka, the Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke Ogene, said the initiative would benefit all segments and strata of the society.
The Governor has continued to demonstrate passion for pursuing projects that impact directly on the life of the people and have multiplier effects on socio-economic growth of the state which most people often see as difficult to actualize.
He stated that the water project is one of the best democracy dividends and palliatives the Governor has provided for the people and recalled that the state has been without functional pipe borne water supply for over fifty years which forced people to rely mostly on boreholes with attendant health challenges.
Chief Okeke Ogene, noted that the project will give both the rich and the poor easy access to clean and hygienic water for daily use which he pointed out will further promote healthy living and reduce the spread of water borne diseases as well as reduce economic burden of sourcing and buying water for various uses.
He said that the water project will also enhance sanitation and hygiene in various homes, schools, hospitals, markets and other public spaces and call on communities to ensure that the facilities are properly secured to serve the people.
Also speaking, a community leader, Chief Cyril Ikegwuonu, said that the water project will save many lives and reduce the cost of going to hospitals because of illnesses and urged other South-east Governors to emulate the initiative to promote the life of their people.
