The member representing Awka South Two Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Chukwuma Okoye has presented a cash sum of two point four million naira to twenty of his constituents to help them through current economic challenges.
The empowerment programme, which took place at the lawmaker’s home, Amawbia, is the second phase of the exercise which targets less privileged members of the constituency who are expected to use the funds to boost their small-scale businesses.
Addressing the gathering, Honourable Okoye explained that the gesture was designed to complement the efforts of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in delivering democracy dividends to the people and as well encourage youth empowerment across board.
The Anambra Deputy Speaker also announced that a monitoring team would keep a close watch on the beneficiaries to ensure judicious use of the funds.
He equally appreciated Governor Soludo for his efforts in repositioning the constituency with developmental projects even in the midst of current economic realities in the country and assured of the unalloyed support of the people to the administration.
In their remark, the Awka South Local Government Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Barrister Lawrence Chukwuma and a former Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Harford Oseke, noted that Honourable Okoye has justified the mandate given to him by continuously empowering his constituents and enjoined the people to be faithful to the All Progressives Grand Alliance as the party is committed to delivering dividends of democracy.
Some of the beneficiaries, Mr. Ekene Odogwu and Lady Chinyere Anagor, described the legislator as a blessing and promised to put the funds into good use, adding that his great representation has brought quality and accessible health care to his people.
They revealed that Honourable Okoye has shown constant uprightness in accounting for the mandate given to him and will perform even better in higher positions, listing presentation of over fifteen tricycles, twenty-five hair dryers, fifty sewing machines, fifteen chest freezers, twelve grinding machines, sienna vehicles, cars and motorcycles to help the constituents become self-reliant and employers of labour as some of his gestures to the constituency.
