The Anambra State Government has warned residents, business owners and religious houses against noise pollution.
The Managing Director of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere gave the warning while serving demand notice to business owners in Awka that are creating unhealthy noise to the environment.
Mr Anere told the people of Anambra to keep in mind that the state’s environmental laws that prohibit noise pollution and other environmental violations which can have negative impacts on human health are still in effect.
He called on leadership and members of various religious organisations, club owners, industries and other interest groups operating in the state to desist from causing noise pollution as anyone caught will be dealt with according to the law.
According to Mr. Anere, the streets and markets should be with less noise pollution, and strict adherence to the state’s environmental laws in the best interest of public health and advised all religious houses, clubhouses, markets and other entertainment outlets to operate within enclosed and soundproofed facilities with regulated use of speakers, giving due considerations to neighbouring residents during and after any celebration.
