Laying of asphalt has commenced on the nine internal roads under construction in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area.

 

Men of Daniels construction company, the firm handling the project, started laying asphalt on the road in the early hours of Thursday.

Works correspondent Ngozi Obileri reports that when ABS arrived at the road, it was observed that asphalt had been laid from the Ministry of Works axis of the road towards the hill side.

 

It was also observed that while drainage was constructed on one side of the road, there were kerbs on the other side of the road.

Speaking to the ABS, the Managing Director of the construction firm, Engineer Daniel Nkwonta, said that depending on the availability of materials, they hope to complete the Presbyterian Church Road in two days’ time and move to Onolibe street, to Dan Mmaduka Street and will continue it until they complete the roads.

 

Engineer Nkwonta also said that they started the project in July last year and that it is supposed to complete by August 2024, but they will finish the work by the end of May and hand over the road to the state government.

He thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo for finding them worthy of serving the state at this point, and appreciated the Commissioner for Works, Engineer Ifeanyi Okoma for his support.

 

On his part, the General Overseer, Mission of the Most High Incorporated whose church is at the entrance of the road, Pastor Isaiah Orjiakor expressed happiness with the Governor for fulfilling his promise, recounting the ugly experiences they had encountered when the road was very bad

 

Pastor Orjiakor urged the Governor not to relent as he said that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has written his name on the sands of time, calling on him to continue the good works he is doing for Ndi Anambra.

 

The asphalt is fifty millimeters, while the width of the road is seven point four meters.
