The House-to-House collection of waste initiated by the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration is yielding positive results.

 

The result of the initiative came to bear after the recent rainfall in Onitsha without refuse flooding various streets of Inland town.

 

ABS witnessed the contractor collecting refuse from the residents at St. Stephen’s Road Inland town, as well as the massive turnout of people disposing of their refuse.

 

Speaking to the ABS, One of the street sweepers. Mrs. Nkiruka Odoh commended the initiative which according to her has been effective.

 

Mrs. Odoh frowned at those who still dump refuse in the drainage and advised them to retrace their steps and revealed that they have been ordered by the Transition Committee Chairman of Onitsha North Local Government Area, Mr. Onochie Ozoma to report any resident that still dumps refuse into the drains for sanctions.

Also speaking, a member of the Transition Committee of Onitsha North Local Government Area, Mr. Chuka Nnamua applauded Governor Soludo for the initiative, adding that streets are no longer flooded with refuse whenever it rains like before and that they have been warning residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

 

A petty trader at Aroli Street, Mrs. Onyedika Okwechime recounted their ordeal whenever it rained before now and thanked the state government and the contractor handling the project for their responsiveness and prayed God to bless them.

The supervisor of the company handling the project, Mr. Patrick Egwuatu who spoke off camera said that their tippers are stationed at strategic locations in Awka road, Isiokwe market, Okosi road among other places to ensure that they cover a large number of houses, calling on residents to endeavor to bring out their refuse whenever they hear their bell.
