To give legal effects to the recent amendment to the Nigerian constitution; which places management of Correctional Service Centres under the concurrent legislative list, the Anambra State Ministry of Justice has prepared and transmitted the “Anambra State Correctional Services Bill” to the state House of Assembly for consideration and eventual passage into law.

Another executive bill from the ministry of justice before the House for legislative actions is the “Anambra State Criminal Law Bill“.

The Attorney General of the state and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje, who spoke to our Judiciary Correspondent, Joseph Egbeocha after transmitting the bills to the state legislature, described them as innovative.

She further explained that the enactment of the Correctional Service bill will ensure humane and effective management of offenders.

On the proposed Criminal law, Professor Ifemeje said that it will help in introducing groundbreaking innovations in the state criminal justice system in line with international best practices.
