Speakers in a one-day seminar on “How to Earn in Dollars Through Export” have outlined certification and standardization as top most issues that will make Nigerian products hit the international market.
The seminar held in Awka was organized by Denta Global Courier Express in collaboration with the Anambra State Committee on Export, domiciled in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and was aimed at exposing the participants to steps to take in achieving their goals in exports so that their crops will not be rejected in international markets.
Speaking during the seminar, the Export Director, DGC Express, Dr Onyinye Okpah said that they are partnering Anambra State Committee on Export to ensure that exporters in the state are well grounded in the things they need to know which is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to sensitize and educate people on how best to achieve their goals in exports of non-oil products.
She noted that the government of Governor Chukwuma Soludo is working round the clock to ensure that Anambra leads in exportation and called on the masses to embark on agricultural expansion and an all season farming to ensure that they produce in large quantities and that exports increase revenue generation and job creation.
A representative of the Standards Organization of Nigeria, SON, Mr Fidelis Warri-Boko, maintained that the programme is necessary as it creates awareness on the essence of standardization as there is zero tolerance on sub-standard products, even as the representative of the Nigerian Customs Service, Mrs Elizabeth Bott disclosed that documentation and visit to the relevant agencies is very important, while revealing other regulations their office renders for easy exportation.
Contributing, the Anambra State Coordinator of the Nigeria Export Promotion Council, NEPC, Mr Peter Udom, noted that the council offers incentives to exporters to help them meet up with the value and target and exposed them to market penetration strategies, adding that efforts are on top gear to have a domestic export warehouse in the state which will help to prepare their products for export after being monitored by the relevant agencies involved.
Others who spoke at the event such as the Director of Cooperatives, Ministry of Commerce, Mrs Nwabugo Okonkwo, the Export State Desk Officer, Dr Tonia Anyamene and Professor Nkiru Meludu commended the convener, Dr Okpah and encouraged Ndị Anambra to embark on aggressive organic farming to make Anambra State an export leader.
