South Eastern investors have been charged to look inwards to the opportunities in exportation rather than importation business.

 

The Export Director of Denca Global Courier, DGC Express, Dr Onyinye Okpah stated this in Onitsha during a one-day seminar on “Cheap Dollars Made Easy, Export Now”, saying that exportation is more lucrative and beneficial to the Nigerian economy than importation.

 

The seminar championed by DGC Express in collaboration with the Committee on Export of the Anambra State Ministry of Commerce and Industry is aimed at showing businessmen and farmers that what they ordinarily think is nothing means a whole lot in export and that what they need to do is to harness every opportunity, ensure their genuineness and think export, thereby earning in dollars.

 

Addressing the gathering, Dr Okpah said that DGC has been in the export business for over thirty years and possesses the knowledge and expertise to sensitize investors especially Ndi Anambra to begin to explore opportunities in exportation, as research has shown that they are the highest importers in the country.

 

She encouraged the business men to follow the rules when packaging their products, in ingredient analysis, make sure that they meet international standards and are certified by the necessary agencies so as to be accepted in the international market, and that with export, there will be economic growth, increase in foreign exchange earnings and government revenue generation.

 

For the Secretary, Anambra State Committee on Export, Mrs. Henrietta Basil-Ideh who is also the Director of Commerce, Anambra State Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ndi Anambra have done a lot in export as they have formed clusters that are trained and certified for export and that they are partnering with the DGC Express to help them facilitate and ease the exportation process.

 

On his part, the Chairman, International Textile Market, Bridge-Head, Onitsha, Chief Basil Ozor said that he is happy for the seminar which has shown that exportation can earn more money than importation and commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for all his interventions in the export sector.

 

Contributing, the South East Co-ordinator, Women in Export, Mrs. Bridget Obi commended DGC Express for bringing out the elementary ways of value addition for every produce.

 

Others who spoke at the event were the Director of Market, Anambra State Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Francis Ilodiuba, a representative of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Mrs. Edith Ikenye while a question and answer session also featured at the seminar.
