All is now set for the first session of the sixth synod of the Anglican Diocese of Amichi.

 

The Synod, which is the highest governing body of a diocese, is slated to hold from Thursday 6th to Sunday 9th June 2024, and will be hosted by Immanuel Anglican Church, Ekwulumili, Nnewi South Local Government Area.

Delegates at the synod will be drawn from all the Archdeaconries and Churches that make up the Amichi Anglican Diocese.

 

Briefing journalists at a press conference held at the synod venue, the Bishop of the diocese, Right Reverend Ephraim Ikeakor, highlighted on the activities of the synod which includes presentation of Bishop’s charge by the President of the Synod on Saturday 8th June, while synod thanksgiving service and fundraising for diocesan projects will be on Sunday 9th June, among other things.

Speaking on the theme of the synod “Idolatry: Causes, Consequences and Cure”, Bishop Ikeakor frowned at the rate at which Church members are returning to idolatry, saying that so many people who indulge in the act do not even understand that idolatry has terrible, monumental and disastrous consequences on individual, family and nation.

 

The Bishop however thanked God that idolatory has cure, which he said is going back to God in repentance, upholding the standard of the scripture, giving God the glory that is due to him, among others.

Bishop Ikeakor, who also thanked God that Amichi Diocese has entered into her 16th year of creation, enumerated some of the activities, growth and achievements of the diocese within the year under review.

 

He revealed that only seven students out of the whole students in the schools run by the diocese – the Holy Child Convent, Amichi, and Master’s Vessel Seminary Osumenyi, scored below two hundred in the just-released JAMB result, adding that the schools maintain standard of zero tolerance to examination malpractice, built a five bedroom bungalow for one of their priests who was amputated while in active service, recorded achievements in the diocesan school of nursing and midwifery, construction of a multi-million naira Episcopal guest house, which he said will be completed before hosting of Church of Nigeria Standing Committee next year by the diocese, among many others.

Earlier before the press briefing, Bishop Ikeakor; accompanied by host of clergy and Synod Planning Committee members, inspected some strategic areas at the host church such as the church building and its surrounding, car park, conveniences, book stand, the choir stand, among other places.
