As part of efforts aimed at promoting Igbo culture and tradition, Chief Kenneth Odimegwu of Ifite-Awka has celebrated the 2024 Egwu Imoka festival in grand style in his place and also used the cultural event to empower some youths.

 

The Norway-based Chief Odimegwu, is also known in the entertainment industry, as Ken tallest having been known to mingle with the country’s grade “A” artistes.

Speaking during the ceremony, Chief Odimegwu said that the event is to revive and promote Igbo culture, just like it has been in the days of their fore fathers and admonished the youths to join hands in helping to revive their culture rather than the involving themselves in the ‘Oke Ite’ get rich quick syndrome .

 

He urged the youths to get properly engaged with skills that will benefit them and stay away from violence and bloodshed.

The Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, Chief Ossy Onuko who graced the cultural event, noted that culture is a way of life peculiar to a people and Egwu Imoka is a unique culture of Awka that promotes conviviality and brotherhood.

 

A member of the Ozo Awka society, Chief Obi Ochije-Modilim explained that Egwu Imoka is an entertaining festival of Awka people and not violent nor aggressive and commended Chief Odimegwu for being a cultural ambassador.

Chief Chukwuma Okafor and Mr. Emmanuel Okonkwo spoke on how unique the Egwu Imoka festival is to Awka people and residents of Awka alike and commended Chief Odimegwu for his efforts towards cultural renaissance.

 

Earlier, guests present were entertained by the unique ‘Igba Abia’ drum of Ifite Awka and later different masquerades from Awka and elsewhere took turn to also entertain the people.

 

Chief Odimegwu showed his dance steps to the playing of ‘Igba Abia’.

Many dignitaries and personalities both in the entertainment industry and government circles graced the occasion that also featured prominent Igbo musicians including Ichoku Music Group and Ogene Mgbajala.
