Master Okwukwe Ezeobiora of Marist Comprehensive College, Nteje has emerged the overall Best Student in the Senior Category of the 5th Edition of Dr.Chinedu Umeadi Foundation, Annual Science Quiz Competition, while Miss Ebere Okparakunne of Queen of Rosary College, QRC, Onitsha emerged the overall Best Student in the Junior Category of the competition.

 

The students went home with three hundred-thousand-naira cash award for their outstanding performances.

The award presentation held at the Utility Hall of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Awka attracted students from selected secondary schools, their teachers, officials of Dr. Chinedu Umeadi Foundation, staff of ASUBEB and Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, among others.

 

A total of two hundred and seventeen Public Secondary Schools made up of ten mission schools and Nnamdi Azikiwe University High School, Awka featured for both the Junior and Senior competition from zonal to state levels.

In his remark, the President of Dr. Chinedu Umeadi Foundation, Sir Ikem Onwuadi, said for five years the foundation has helped humanity in numerous fields, including youth development, healthcare, poverty alleviation, empowerment, football, talent hunt, beauty pageants, leadership training cum character rebranding.

 

He revealed that a lot of good resources have gone into the foundation for the good of humanity, even as the foundation encourages all well-meaning persons and institutions to contribute to the upliftment of humanity as government cannot do it alone.

In her welcome address, the Director of Science and Tech. Department of the PPSSC, Awka, Mrs. Eucharia Ikegwuonwu, said the Dr. Chinedu Umeadi Foundation Science Quiz Competition is becoming one of the highest brands in the whole of Anambra State.

 

She noted that today, they can attest that the awardees are indeed the best in Anambra State as far as sciences and ICT are concerned, adding that apart from the zonal and state finalists, the awards also include the schools, principals and teachers that produced the wonderful students.

In their separate remarks, the Chairman PPSSC, Awka, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, represented by Dr. Uche Okeke, and the Chairman of ASUBEB, Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, represented by Mrs Ify Anatune, thanked the foundation for its creative and charismatic method of using an advanced Programme software and Computer Based Test for the competitions, which they said help to elevate the students Intelligent Quotient in ICT globally, saying it is in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s education agenda for Anambra State.

 

The overall Best Students, Master Ezeobiora and Miss Okparakunne, said they are delighted for coming tops in the competitions, attributing it to the efforts of their parents, teachers, the organizers, as well as hard work on their own sides, and appreciated Dr. Umeadi for giving them the opportunity to shine.

 

Motivational awards for schools, principals and teachers of best state finalists were also presented at the ceremony.

In the Junior Category, the Best School of Best student award went to QRC, Onitsha, and Best Principal award was won by Reverend Sister Maria Chijioke, while in the Senior Category, Best School of Best student award went to Marist Comprehensive College, Nteje, and Best Principal award was won by Reverend Brother Nnodu Onwutalu.

 

Award presentations, consolation prizes, welcome song, cultural and Indian dances formed the highpoints of the day.
