Mr Emeka Okajiegbe has been elected as the new President of the Youth Wing of Abagana Welfare Union after he scored seventy votes to beat his closet rival, Mr Uchenna Umeadi; who scored twenty-six votes.

 

The election, which was conducted at the National Secretariat of Abagana Welfare Union, Njikoka Council Area, and under the supervision of Anambra State Association of Town Union, ASATU, saw the emergence of new youth leadership after eight years of division and vacuum.

Other members of the newly elected executive are Mr Uche Okeke – First Vice-president, Mr Onyeka Okafor – Second Vice-president, Mr Emeh Amandi – Secretary, Mr Moses Chiemelie – Assistant Secretary, and Mr Emmanuel Oguejiofor – Financial Secretary.

 

The Treasurer is Mr Mac-Anthony Ofole, Public Relations Officer One, Mr John Ikechukwu, Public Relations Officer Two, Mr Augustine Okechukwu, Provost One, Mr Onyeka Nwokolo and Provost Two, Mr Daniel Nwazojie.

Others are Welfare Secretary One, Mr Chidubem Ngananga, and Welfare Secretary Two, Mr Elias Okonkwo.

 

All were declared winners in accordance with the stipulated guidelines by the electoral committee chaired by Mr Ikenna Anisi, and were officially sworn into office by the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Mr Samuel Nwankwo.

Earlier, the President-General of Abagana Welfare Union, Engineer Ben Okongwu, who noted that the parent body was on ground to ensure that the process was successful in accordance with the directives of the Anambra State Government, had wished all the candidates a peaceful outing, and reminded them that the interest of the entire community is paramount.

In his remark, ASATU Youth President, Mr Ken Okoli, who expressed satisfaction with process, commended the excellent job done by the Abagana electoral committee, even as he urged other communities to emulate such a free, fair and transparent exercise.

 

The Secretary Caretaker Committee, Mr Nnamdi Anierobi, on behalf of the committee, congratulated the new executive members and urged them to hold in high esteem the mandate of Abagana youths, as well as take the association to the next level.

Responding, the new President of the Youth Wing of Abagana Welfare Union, Mr Okajiegbe, promised to operate an all-inclusive leadership in the interest of Abagana youths, the entire Abagana community and Anambra State in general, even as he thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo for believing in the youth structure of ASATU, and promised that Abagana youths will not lag behind in the affairs of the youth at the state level.
