The Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Chukwuma Okoye, has been commended for complementing the efforts of the state government in improving healthcare service provision in the state.
The state Lawmaker was particularly commended for building a brand-new primary health centre in Uruh village, Mbaukwu in Awka South Council Area.
Commissioning the project, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, praised Right Honourable Okoye for meeting the needs of the people, and revealed that the facility is a laudable project that will increase easy access to health care services, especially with the free antenatal and delivery services of the state government.
Commissioner Obidike, who assured full utilization of the facility in no distant time, enjoined the people to always access the Primary Healthcare centres in their locality and avoid self-medication, unlicensed health workers and facilities.
He also called on well-to-do individuals to partner the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency through its adoption model to enlist less-privileged people in their communities into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme.
The Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Pharmacist Chisom Uchem, applauded the quality and design of the centre, which according to her, is the best in the state, even as she advised the community to ensure proper ownership of the project.
Handing over the keys of the facility to the state government and the community, Right Honorable Okoye said that he was moved to erect and see to the operation of the facility because of the challenges people of the community face in accessing primary health care services.
He also explained that the project is a way to complement the state government’s efforts in revitalizung the health sector, and to secure the lives of his constituents, assuring that he will continue to fund projects and initiatives that have direct impact on the people.
On behalf of the community, the spokesperson, Mr. Nwokediuko Okpala, thanked the Lawmaker for his tireless efforts in improving the living standards of the people and the development of the town, and stated that the primary healthcare centre is indeed another laudable project that will benefit the community hugely.
The Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in Mbakwu ward, Comrade Shedrach Ezeilo, apologised for the community’s poor performance in support of APGA in the last elections, and promised that they have chart a new course that will deliver the community to APGA in coming elections, as they are ready to welcome over seven hundred decampees into the party.
