Anambra State eight Assembly has held a special thanksgiving service to commemorate their first year in office.
The event took place at the State Legislative Chamber in Awka and was officiated by the Archbishop, Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim.
House of Assembly Correspondent Emmanuel Chigbata reports that the service attracted numerous dignitaries, including the State Governor, represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Chief of Staff Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, lawmakers, government functionaries, traditional rulers, and people from various walks of life.
In his address, the Speaker of the eight Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, highlighted the Assembly’s accomplishments despite the challenges associated with lawmaking.
He noted that the assembly has successfully passed laws that shape government policies and ensure the well-being of Ndi Anambra.
The Speaker disclosed that under his leadership, the Assembly recorded an eighty percent attendance rate across fifty-nine plenary sessions from July 2023 to 2024, emphasizing the lawmakers’ responsiveness to the needs of their constituencies.
Earlier in his sermon, Most Reverend Ibezim congratulated the eight Assembly and its leader, Right Honourable Udeze, for their achievements within the past year.
He emphasized that these milestones underscored the Assembly’s crucial role in shaping the state’s political journey.
Archbishop Ibezim praised the assembly’s legislative productivity and urged them to continue working for the state’s progress.
Some lawmakers who spoke to the ABS including, the Majority Leader, Sir Ikenna Ofodeme, the Member representing Oyi Constituency, Honourable Innocent Ojike, his Aguata Constituency Two counterpart, Chief Tony Muobuike, and Engineer Emma Nwafor representing Orumba South Constituency, thanked God for the privilege to serve their constituents at the eighth Assembly, assuring their constituents of adequate representation.
Congratulating the Assembly, the traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Ben Emeka, adjudged the assembly to have done well, through peaceful coexistence and harmonious relationship, led by the speaker.
