Anambra State Commissioner for Special Duties, Mrs Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche has commended the wife the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo for her passion, care and interventions for the elderly.

 

The commendation is contained in her press release in Awka to mark this year’s Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

 

Mrs Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche who said that Mrs Soludo through her non-governmental movement, “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo”, has given the elderly hope to live a better life, recalled that only recently the Governor’s wife distributed multi-vitamin supplements to over twenty-seven thousand elderly persons in the state as a strategic move aimed at creating a wholesome healthy society.

She said that Mrs Soludo has shown serious concern for the well-being of the elderly which has inspired many programmes and initiatives being implemented by the state government to improve the welfare of the elderly.

 

The Commissioner revealed that the state government is also developing plans to mainstream care for the poor and elderly and called on residents of the state to see the care for the elderly as a priority.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day celebrated every June fifteenth was designated by the United Nations General Assembly to provide an opportunity for communities to stand together against the abuse, maltreatment and neglect of the aged.
