Vice-Principals in Anambra State Secondary Schools have been charged to live up to their responsibilities.
The Chairman Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Awka, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu gave the charge while addressing Vice-Principals at a one-day capacity building workshop organized for them at Capital City Secondary School, Awka.
The workshop which drew Board Members of Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Secretary of the Commission, Mrs Bernadine Anagor as well as Vice-Principals from the six educational zones in the State, was aimed at looking at the duties of the Vice Principals, their supportive roles and their roles in supervision.
Professor Ikediugwu stressed that in secondary schools, there are Vice-Principal administration, Vice-Principal Academics and Vice-Principal General Duties and that their responsibilities vary but they have some similar duties to perform in the school.
She listed some of their duties to include assisting the principal in decision-making, students discipline, supporting the teachers, working with the principal to reach out to parents and staff to ensure effective communication, standing in for the principal in his or her absence as well as coordinating specific events like assemblies and others.
She urged the vice-principals to be role models and thanked the School Evaluation Quality Assurance Department for its passion, interest and zeal in organizing the workshop and the resource persons for doing justice to their papers.
The resource persons include Mrs Nkechi Adinnu, Mrs Eucharia Illikah and Mrs Sabina Ndigwe, while the highlight of the gathering was paper presentations, group discussion, recitation of the new national anthem, among others.
