Residents of Anambra State will soon benefit from the new water projects initiated by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
This was disclosed by the Chairman, Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Power and Water Resources, Honourable Golden Iloh, during an oversight visit to various water project sites in Onitsha and Otuocha.
The visited sites included Otuocha Water Scheme, Greater Onitsha Water Scheme, GRA, and Owellebo.
During the visit, it was observed that several maintenance activities were underway, including work on reservoirs, treatment plants, reticulating pipes, clearing operations, and solar-powered boreholes, among other improvements.
The committee also engaged with the companies handling the projects to understand the challenges and delays they were facing.
Speaking after the oversight, Honourable Iloh, who represents Ihiala Constituency Two, observed that work is in progress and explained that the primary purpose of the visit was to ensure that the funds appropriated for the water projects are being properly utilized.
According to the lawmaker, the water projects aim to provide reliable and clean water to various communities across the state, thereby addressing long-standing issues of water scarcity.
He affirmed that the project is expected to enhance the quality of life for residents, while also supporting public health and economic development.
During the visit, Honourable Iloh provided feedback and identified areas for improvement to the project handlers, urging them to expedite their work and complete the projects on schedule.
On his part, the Majority Leader and member representing Ekwusigo Constituency, Sir Ikenna Ofodeme, who highlighted Governor Soludo’s commitment to ensuring the best for his people, emphasized that the successful completion of the water projects will greatly alleviate the water challenges faced by many communities in Anambra, urging the companies involved to intensify their efforts.
Part of the oversight team included the member representing Oyi Constituency, Honourable Innocent Ojike, and Engineer Emma Nwafor, representing Orumba South Constituency.
