The Federal government has been commended for honouring the late literary icon, Professor Chinua Achebe by naming a road after him in Abuja.
Speaking to the ABS in Awka, the Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke Ogene said that though belated, the honour is well deserved.
Paul Ezeoke reports that Chief Okeke Ogene said that the Late Professor Achebe spent his entire life fighting for the common good of the society and used his literary work to champion the crusade against injustice, suppression and marginalization of individuals and groups.
He recalled that Professor Achebe rejected a national honour from the Federal government to protest ill treatment and marginalization of Ndigbo by the government of the day, but regretted that most of the ills the literary icon fought against are still challenging Nigeria today and holding down the development of true democratic principles and structures.
He urged upcoming writers and other professionals to emulate the late Achebe by using their talents and skills to fight evil and evolve a society that provides opportunities for everyone and expressed satisfaction that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has sustained efforts towards redefining good governance in the country.
Meanwhile, Governor Soludo has continued to receive commendations for signing eleven bills into law.
In his reaction, the National Patron of Anambra Demand for Soludo, Chief Henry Igboeli said that the laws will promote good governance and development across the State, as well as enable the state to conduct local government elections to further strengthen democratic structures and institutions at the grassroots.
According to Chief Igboeli, the Governor is fulfilling promises he made to the people and is transforming all sectors of the state in the drive to achieve a liveable and prosperous state, with enough opportunities for everybody and a reference point in the country and charged relevant authorities and security agencies to ensure that the laws are properly and strictly implemented to achieve the set goals.
