The National President, Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, Barrister Titus Akpudo, has commended the state government for its efforts to ensure that there is peace in Anambra communities, particularly in Eziowelle, Idemili North Local Government Area.

 

Barrister Akpudo also extended his commendations to the Commissioner for Local Governments, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr. TonyCollins Nwabunwanne, for delivering the state government agenda of peace in the community.

 

These commendations are coming in reaction to a recent publication by some people from Eziowelle, in which they accused the Local Goverment Commissioner of bias in handling the affairs of the community, especially with regards to the town union election scheduled to hold on the 29th of June, 2024.

 

Barrister Akpudo, who is also the President General of Eziowelle Improvement Union, explained that government has made enormous sacrifices to ensure that various factions in the community find a common ground to ensure peaceful conduct of the election on the scheduled date.

He described Barrister Akpudo as a man of wisdom; restraint in exercising powers, and one that has performed well in office as President General of Eziowelle community, calling on the troublemakers to allow him organise the scheduled election and leave office.

 

Contributing, the Palace Secretary of the community, Chief Jerry Anyaegbu, and Youth leader, as well as member of Onitsha branch of the union who participated in the meetings with the Commissioner, Mr. Emeka Okoye-ozor, wondered why few people from three branches have decided not to give peace a chance in the community by working against the collective interest of their people.

 

The youth leader specifically advised youths and members of the community to remain peaceful in conduct as Eziowelle is known for, saying that the town union election will hold as scheduled.
