Following the sealing of the Electronics Spare parts Market at Iweka road Onitsha by the Anambra State government, theAssociation of Radio and Television Technicians Anambra State Chapter has sent a save our soul message to the State Governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo.
Members of the Association made the call through their Chairman Mr. Sebanstine Ekunite at Anambra State Market Amalgamated Traders Association Office, Onitsha.
The Technicians who were in their numbers were carrying placards with different inscriptions such as “Governor Soludo you are doing well”, “Radio and Television Technicians are not Members of Electrical Spare parts Traders Association”, “Governor Soludo come to our rescue”, among others.
Speaking to the ABS, the Chairman of the association Mr. Ekunite who lamented the sealing of their shops for few days now which he said has thrown them out of business, bearing in mind the economic situation of the country noted that the members of Electronics Spare Parts Traders Association Onitsha is forcing their member to relocate with them to their new site at Harbour Industrial Layout, which he described as an intimidation.
On his part, an executive member of the association, Comrade Uchenna Ikechi disclosed that they are technicians and not traders, adding that none of their members contributed money towards the construction of the new market neither do they have shops in the market.
They therefore called on the state government and Anambra State Market Amalgamated Traders Association to wade into the matter as they had gone to court years back over the matter and judgement was delivered in their favour.
Addressing the Technicians, on behalf of the President General of ASMATA, Chief Humphrey Anuna, the ASMATA Chairman Onitsha Zone, Chief Eric Uwaoma commended the artisans for their peaceful conduct and initiative to come to the ASMATA’s office to seek redress, noting that the present administration in the state led by Governor Soludo is a peaceful government and would not like to disrupt the existing peace.
He called on them to exercise patience, adding that the leadership of ASMATA and that of the associations will dialogue to bring a lasting peace to the crisis.
