Miss Makua Nwosu of Loretto Special Science School, Adazi-Nnukwu has emerged winner of the fourteenth edition of the Prince Emeka Ayabazu Science Quiz Competition while students of Mata Amabilis Umuoji took the first position in the Fair exhibition Competition.

 

Queen Anigbogu reports that Miss Nwosu went home with thirty-five thousand naira and several text and exercise books and students of Mata Amabilis Umuoji went home with forty-five thousand for producing e-hospital.

The competition and award of Academic Excellence Ceremony which is a brainchild of Prince Emeka Ayabazu Foundation in collaboration with Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, took place at the Utility Hall of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, and attracted students, teachers and officials of the foundation.

 

The ceremony saw students from various schools exhibiting innovative devices aimed at helping to solve everyday problems, including e-hospital, automatic change-over, smoke and gas detector, smart goggles for the blind, steam power electricity and generator among others.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Host, Prince Emeka Ayabazu said the theme of the event “Application of Science and Technology in Solving Modern Problems” is very apt in the contemporary society noting that every effort made towards encouraging the young ones in school to improve on their knowledge in science and technology will be rewarding in short and long term.

 

Chief Ayabazu represented by Elder Roland Akujieze assures that Prince Emeka Ayabazu Foundation is committed towards advancing this course in collaboration with their partners and other stakeholders.

The Host and Chairman of PPSSC, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu explained that through the foundation, the academic achievements of the students have continued to improve and she appreciated Governor Soludo for creating and sustaining the environment for science education to thrive and for creating conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning as well as recruiting teachers to fill the gaps needed in the teaching field.

 

The Director of Science and Technology Department, of PPSSC, Mrs Eucharia Ikegwuonwu, noted that the tone of the competition is improving annually, noting that the students have been exposed to the use of ICT gadgets through Computer Based Quiz conducted.

The Chairman on the occasion, Chief Chidi Abafor said the founder of the foundation, Chief Ayabazu has passion for children to learn more about science and technology and has been the sole sponsor of the competition over the years which has attracted him a recognition from the state government as one of the pillars of education in Anambra State.

The overall winner, Miss Nwosu in her remarks, mentioned hard work and dedication as secret behind her success and appreciated the sponsor and the organizers for availing her such opportunity.
