The Governing Council of the newly established Apex College of Nursing Sciences Igbo- Ukwu, Aguata Council Area, has been inaugurated.Correspondent Kenechukwu Chukwudi reports that during the inauguration, the Proprietor and members of the Governing Council promised to make the institution great in the training of Nursing manpower, both for Nigeria and abroad.

 

Apex College of Nursing Sciences, located in a vast premises in Igbo-Ukwu, is one of the private health institutions training capable hands in the nursing profession.

According to the Proprietor of the College, Professor Uchenna Nwosu, he has always been motivated to provide medicare for rural dwellers since after his graduation from Havard College, and has remained true to his ideals, especially with the Nursing School coming upstream.

 

He revealed that the shortage of Nurses worldwide is in the region of five point nine million, which the International Council of Nurses projected in 2021 that over thirteen million Nurses are required to bridge the gap in 2030.

Professor Nwosu charged the council members to be fully committed to the task of making the College take its pride of place in the country in no distant time.

 

In his acceptance speech, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the College, Barrister Ifeanyi Chukwurah, said it is a great honour and privilege to serve the institution, and assured that the council will remain committed to its vision and goals in order to take the College to enviable height.

The Member Representing Aguata Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Honorable Dom Okafor, who commended the Proprietor of the College, Professor Nwosu, for his contributions to healthcare services in Igbo-Ukwu, said he has no doubt that the College will grow to enviable level under his leadership.

 

Anambra State Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Perpetual Anene, said it is remarkable that the Nursing College is operational, and lauded the Proprietor for ensuring that all criteria set by Nursing and Midwifery Council were met, adding that the College is the first of its kind in Anambra State.

Contributing, the Chairman, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives Anambra State, Mrs. Edith Onwuka, said establishing the Nursing College is a giant step taken by the Proprietor; Professor Nwosu, adding that given his trajectory in medicine, the College will definitely be one of the best in near future.

 

An Architect and member of the Governing Council of the College, Mr. Charles Egbudom who extolled the Proprietor for his lofty dream and inspiration to members of the council, urged Nigerians to take advantage of the prime Nursing school.

Handover of the school accreditation document, law establishing Nursing Colleges and the Proprietor’s Autobiography, “Wrapped Soul”, formed the highpoints of the event.
